Matthew Scott Scenna was presented with his Eagle Scout award on Aug 16, 2008.
After earning his Arrow of Light Award, Matthew joined Troop 103 in Burlington in the fall of 2001. He completed the requirements for both the Scout and Tenderfoot Scout award in January of 2002.Matthew joined Troop 302 in January of 2003 and advanced to Second Class in June of the same year.He completed his First Class Scout requirements in November of 2004. Matt became a Star Scout in February of 2006, and became a Life Scout in October of 2007. Matthew completed all the requirements for Eagle Scout and satisfied the Board of Review of his worthiness to become an Eagle Scout on July 14, 2008. As an Eagle Service Project, Matthew chose to lead the troop and other volunteers in painting the kitchen and a second room at the Pleasant Street Congregational Church in Arlington. The project involved extensive work in washing, sanding, taping, plastering, removing hardware and painting all surfaces during a marathon weekend. Matt coordinated the work of 18 volunteers who contributed 152 volunteer hours to make the space brighter, cleaner and safer for food preparation for the church and a day care center that also uses the space. Matthew has shown his leadership abilities by holding the positions of Patrol Leader, Assistant Patrol Leader, Quartermaster and Assistant Senior Patrol Leader. Matthew was elected by his fellow Scouts to the Order of the Arrow where he is currently a Brotherhood member.
In June of 2008, Matthew graduated from Shawsheen Valley Technical High School with four years of perfect attendance. Matt is preparing to study automotive technology at Ben Franklin Institute of Technology in the fall. He has also earned a first degree black belt in Kenpo Karate and has been a volunteer with the Friends of Boston Harbor Islands for over ten years.
